Primary Industries Academy

Geraldine High School is one of the small number of NZ schools invited to offer this course.

The Primary Industry Academy is a partnership between NZ Trade Academy, Primary Industry Training Organisation, selected schools and willing employers aimed at providing students with practical industry experience resulting in a career pathway in Agriculture, Horticulture or Forestry.

The Year 11-13 year old students work towards NCEA in their traditional subjects as well as the National Certificate in Primary Industry. After completion of Level One the National Certificate branches into more specialised areas of Sheep & Beef/Dairy/Horticulture involving weekly industry work placements. Students also complete a large amount of community work via Young Farmers, local shows and schools.

The Academy fills an important gap and the challenge is to:

  • Create visible pathways linked with industry
  • Ensure relevant vocational education linked to real jobs
  • Provides opportunity for students to succeed through contextual learning

Our Academy is recognised as one of the best in the country and our students are highly sought after.

Student comments:
