Many of our GHS students have been selected for various South Canterbury Sports Representative teams and gained other noteable achievements during the holidays and congratulations go out to all of these students:

TDC Community Awards - Our Deputy Head Girl Annabel Mulligan was announced joint winner for the Youth Community Spirit award at the end of last term! This award is to acknowledge a Year 13 student's service to the school and community in the Timaru District. Well done Annabel.

Rugby - Geraldine Rugby Club U18 team which had a number of our students in this - won the South Canterbury U18 title which follows on from the U16 and U14 and 1/2 title they won previously. Our students were Travis Teneti, Hamish Scannell, Hamish Prattley, Jake White, Sergio Johnson, Devin Lawson, Caleb Flett, Cody Clarke-Wills, William van Sprang, Hayden Nelson, Jack McLeay and Jack O'Sullivan.

Selected for SC Under 65kg Rep Rugby team - Ben Bartlett, Conor Foley-Smith, Alex Hayes, Bede Fisher, Bailey Booth, Ryan Leith and Ben Sullivan.

Selected for SC Under 48kg Rep Rugby team - Graeme Campbell and Jayden Williams.

Selected for Under 18 wider training squad - Devin Lawson and Sergio Johnson.

Selected for SC 13th Grade Rep Soccer team - Robert Furrer.

Netball - a superb effort from our Year 9 and 10 Netball Team at the SISS Junior Tournament in Christchurch. Our young side finished 7th out of 24 teams which was a fantastic result.

Agrikids - Geraldine Hillbillies Agrikids team of Robert Furrer, William Wilson and Angus Wallace finished 7th out of 21 teams in the Young Farmer Agri Kids competition.

Flying - Rangitata teenager Ross Brodie has made history by becoming the country's youngest microlight instructor. Earlier this year Ross managed another world first by flying solo for the first time on his sixteenth birthday, not once but sixteen times in sixteen different aircraft. It's a feat which has not been achieved by anyone else world-wide. A wonderful achievement.

13th Grade Black - Matt Harding , Jack Barrie (Geraldine)

13th Grade Green - Tom Leov , Robert Furrer, Geordie McCully ,

14th Grade - Ben Cosgriff

15th Grade - Karma Gyeltshen and Jocab Price

Orienteering - Success for GHS students at the National Schools Orienteering Champs at Cambridge. Tom Harding 2nd in Sprint event and 2nd in Long event, and fastest leg 3 runner in relay. Matt Harding in winning relay team and fastest leg runner. And, Tom has been selected for the NZ National Schools Orienteering team to travel to Australia (Brisbane) to compete against the Australian school’s team in September.

It is wonderful to see so many of you achieving highly over the holidays and our expectation is that every one of you can be successful.

Our school provides those opportunities to try new things and discovering what you are capable of - so ensure that this term you are responsible in making sure that you do take on all these opportunities as they arise, so that you are setting yourself up well for the life ahead of you.
