We celebrate the following sports achievements from our students recently:
Cross Country results in Wellington for the Inter-Regional Primary and Intermediate Schools Cross-Country Championships 2016:
Year 7 Girls: Amelia McKeown placed 34th and 1st in the South Canterbury Girls
Year 8 Boys: Kahn Ashton placed 24th and 1st out of South Canterbury Boys for his age group
Cameron Prattley attended the Aoraki Secondary Schools MTB Champs on 17th September. He placed 3rd in the Under 15 Men's team. He has also just attended the Nationals in Dunedin for Down Hill where he got 2 3rd placings and a 20th placing in the 3 races.
Year 12 student James Burnett entered the Clubs NZ Open Nationals 8 Ball Tournament and out of the 260 competitors, James ended up in the top 32 players.
Tom Harding was in Queensland with the NZ Secondary Schools Orienteering team during the holidays. The team competed against the Australian states and secured the Southern Cross Trophy with a decisive 10 wins, a second and a third in the team results. Tom’s Junior Boys relay team won a close race, with Tom second place (by just seven seconds) on the first relay leg. Tom was the leading NZ boy in 4th place in the Junior Boys long distance race (see photos elsewhere in the newsletter).
Year 12 student Kate Brown was in a team for the 6 hour Women’s Spring Challenge event held in Golden Bay. This involves rafting, mountain-biking and running while navigating to checkpoints along a course.
Flynn Sugrue was in the 11th Grade Aoraki Football Squad who played in Australia in the holidays which they won.
Taya Wynn was in the 12th Grade Girls team - they got 6th overall in the South Island Tournament.
Quinn Claridge was in the 12th Grade Boys team. The team placed 11th overall in the South Island Tournament.
The 13th Grade Boys had 2 teams:
Jack Barrie and Matt Harding were in the Black team and they placed 11th in the South Island Tournament.
Tom Leov, Robert Furrer, Geordie McCully were in the Green team and they were 12th in the South Island Tournament.
Ben Cosgriff was in the 14th Grade and his team were 5th in the South Island Tournament.
Karma Gyeltshen was in the 15th Grade and his team got 4th in the South Island Tournament.
Stephen Harding was awarded the Most Valued Player award for 2016 for the Geraldine Football Club (out of all players, junior and senior). He played in the Seniors (Division 2) team for the Geraldine Football Club.
In the Under 65kg South Canterbury team was: Year 7 student Bede Fisher and Year 8 students Alex Hayes, Bailey Booth, Ryan Leith, Conor Foley-Smith, Ben Sullivan and Ben Bartlett who came 6th in the South Island Competition (read more about these students elsewhere in this newsletter).
Year 8 student Graeme Campbell and Jayden Williams were in the Under 48kg South Canterbury team who came 8th in the South Island Competition.
Year 9 student Zion Lafai was in the Under 14 Mid Canterbury team and they placed 4th in the South Island Competition.
Year 10 student TJ Lensley was in the Under 16 Mid Canterbury team and came 8th in the South Island Competition.
Year 13 Students Sergio Johnson and Devin Lawson were in the Under 18 South Canterbury team. They were placed 7th in the South Island Competition.
Year 7 student William Wilson was in the Mid Canterbury Primary B Boys team that got 5th in the Boys Festival of Hockey tournament.
Ben O'Kane, Logan Sowden and Innes Hanrahan were in the South Canterbury Hatch Development team. They placed 1st equal in the National Competition.
Emma Wood, Nora Quigley, Rachel Harford and Rebekah Skinner were in the South Canterbury Collier Girls team and placed 13th in the National Competition.
And Connie McFarlane was in the South Canterbury U15 team which got 14th out 22 teams in the National Competition .
