This event is an annual Maths teams competition held in Timaru. Teams from most South Canterbury schools enter in each of Years 7 through to 10.
Teams attempt to answer as many of the 20 questions available in 30
minutes as they can with the winning team being the first to get all 20 questions correct
or the team at the end of 30 minutes with the highest score. The competition
encourages team work and a good understanding of problem solving.
GHS entered 2 teams at each year level and I would like to thank the students for making themselves available, the parents for providing transport and support, and the staff who organised the teams and helped run the event, in particular Mr Meadowcroft and Mr Silcock.
While we did not win any of the trophies, all students worked hard and appeared to enjoy the occasion.
Year 7: The team of Jack Barrie, Kieran Ward-Smith, Geordie McCully and Conor Foley-Smith finished 3rd out of 27 teams. The second team came in 4th so great results from this year group.
Year 8: Both teams finished in mid field out of the 30 teams.
Year 9: Again both teams finished mid field out of 24 teams.
Year 10: Team A gained 4th place ( a great result). Team B competed boldly and enthusiastically.
Once again many thanks to all involved.
