On Monday 7th November, we had to meet at school at 7:15am ready for our Year 7 adventure to Wainui camp. We packed up and then we were off!
When we arrived at camp we were told our bunkrooms and then we unpacked and prepared for our first activity. Mine was abseiling. I offered to go first and up I went. I was a bit apprehensive at first, but once I’d launched myself off the platform, I started feeling more confident.
The next day we started with the beach activity where we went exploring and made a sculpture. We spotted some crabs and I got wet when the wave splashed me.
Following that activity we then went off to coasteering. This is where we had to cross the channel in the ocean and climb a hill to jump off. Unfortunately the swell was too large and we didn’t get to jump in but we found more crabs and spotted jellyfish and sea anemones.
Our last activity for the day was the giant swing. When we got to the site, we were super impressed with the view! The giant swing was my favourite because you had to get pulled up to a height and then pull the cord to make yourself drop…….. Scarrryyy!!!! It was so high!
Next morning, we started with Archery. I wasn’t very good to begin with but then I got the hang of it with practice. After this activity we went to high ropes. High ropes was so much fun. I was so scared at some of the challenges, because we only had a thin wire to walk on and I got the wobbles! I made it though.
Orienteering gave us the chance to explore the camp further which we did albeit a bit slow! Then that night we headed off to a Campfire run by the instructors. We’ve all come back with some new songs.
On the final day, we had kayaking. The sun was out and the ocean was calm, it was perfect! We kayaked out to a cave and then had some games. Kayaking was another one of my favourite activities.
Then it was time to pack up and leave. This camp was one I’ll never forget because of the challenges and goals I achieved and because of the new friends I made. I loved it!
