New Staff for 2017

By Mr Simon Coleman | Posted: Friday December 9, 2016

We have been fortunate to have appointed the following teachers for 2017 who have worked in a range of schools and who bring both knowledge and experience to the positions in English, Science/Maths and 2 Homerooms.

The new staff that will be joining us are:

  • Mr Stuart Wilcox - currently teaching at Waihi School and will take up the permanent Homeroom position
  • Mrs Sangeeta Chaudhari - currently teaching at Sacred Heart Girls' College in New Plymouth and will take the Science/Maths position
  • Mr Dan Waldie - currently teaching at Westland High School in Hokitika and will take the English position
  • Miss Amy Ross - LTR Homeroom position.

Sangeeta Chaudhari - Science/Maths

Sangeeta Chaudhari has been teaching at Sacred Heart Girls’ College, New Plymouth, since 2001. Her specialist subject areas are Chemistry and Biology and has taught Science across Years 7 to 13.
She has been Dean of International Students. Sangeeta was awarded a Ministry of Education scholarship for ESOL training in 2012 and has been also been an ESOL teacher.
Sangeeta enjoys teaching and learning Indian cooking and has held community cooking classes in Taranaki since 2003.  She is also a certified Adult Tutor.
Sangeeta and her husband Arun have been married for 27 years and have two grown-up daughters.

Dan Waldie - English

Dan and his wife Amy are from England and prior to moving to New Zealand in 2011, was a secondary school teacher of English in a number of schools in the UK.  Since moving to Aotearoa, Dan and Amy have had a son and have somehow acquired a new dog "Jet" and two chickens "Lilo and Stitch" (as well as their Border Collie "Daisy" who came over from the UK). Dan's first two years in New Zealand were spent teaching at a very large college in Auckland and for the last three years has taught at Westland High on the West Coast - on the advice and insistence of their son, they have decided to move further east (and south) as he wants to live where "it's not always raining".  His teaching axiom could be described as "a happy and engaged student is a successful student" and he always aspires within his classes to create cross-curricular units, in particular Social Sciences, with lessons which are relevant to his students but also fun. When he's not busy at the "chalk face" Dan tries to spend as much time outdoors tramping, kayaking, skiing, climbing and playing football. He very much looks forward to becoming part of the Geraldine High School community and to meeting you all.

Mr Stuart Wilcox - Year 7 Homeroom

Stuart moved from London to Geraldine in July 2015 with his wife Fiona and two young boys, Ollie and Finn, both of whom attend Geraldine Primary School. Stuart has a wealth of teaching experience in the Primary and Secondary sectors, where he has led different departments. Stuart comes to us from Waihi Prep School, where he has taught many different subjects since landing in New Zealand.

Stuart has many passions including sport and geography. He is presently training to be a reserve fire fighter and is a coach at the local Geraldine Gymnastics Club.

During his time in the UK Stuart travelled extensively. One of his many highlights was the chance of visiting and helping locals in Sri Lanka, after the devastating Tsunami of 2004.
