Our National Standard results for the Years 7 and 8 for 2016 showed pleasing progress across Reading, Writing and Mathematics. We have been able to use these results to set our targets for the academic year of 2017.
In order to continue to raise student achievement we are looking at a number of strategies to assist us with this. We will continue to group students according to their needs, have mixed ability groups and are trialling students making more choices around their learning so that they become flexible, independent learners using 21st Century tools.
This year, as part of the school’s extension programme, we have 3 senior teachers working an hour a week with our students in Year 8, who have strengths in Social Studies, Mathematics and Literacy. We have also have a Teacher Aide/Learning Assistant for 12 hours who will work with individuals and groups on set programmes. Some of the Homeroom staff are also going to be working within the department in rooms other than their own alongside the teacher assisting with Literacy either for remedial work or extension.
