Ex GHS student Hamish Scannell was a guest speaker for both classes this week. He is in the first year of his Cadetship at Coleridge Downs, which is comprised of 4 farms 9,000 Ha with 42,000 stock units. He starts at 7.30am and finishes at about 6.00pm, depending on the job that day.
Jobs so far have been weaning, weighing, drenching, crutching and mustering. He also has a pup to train. Hamish said that to date it has been all he could have hoped for and is very appreciative of the time in our class which he feels has given him a clear head start over the other candidates in securing his position
Level 1 have had their latest round of courses at AgriLearn Training completing the first days of Water Supply, Farm Bikes and Fencing. This time the class joined MacKenzie College and took out the Top student Awards with Madi and Lucy tied for Fencing, Olly was first in Water Supply and Jordy first in Farm Bikes.
Fundraising for The FMG Young Farmer Final in Fielding is full steam ahead with pie orders, sausage sizzle, stock take at Temuka Night & Day and a Quiz Night completed so far. We are currently running a silent auction for a fabulous painting courtesy of McAtamney Gallery and Design Store by Artist Richard Bolton titled 'View from Pleasant Valley to Geraldine'. It is a water colour (size - framed 97cm x 53cm, image only 71cm x 25cm). See poster attached for more details.
