Applications for Gateway 2018 will soon be open
This year’s Gateway students were recently presented with their Gateway badges at assembly. They have a diverse range of career pathway choices and we are very grateful to the businesses and organisations who have opened the doors and welcomed our students. This year they are:
Gateway is a subject choice available to Year 12 and 13 students which combines classroom learning with practical experience in the workplace. Students must apply, outlining what their chosen pathway is. If selected, they will complete a minimum of 10 one-day work placements throughout the year which will mean one day out of the classroom each week. This means our Gateway students have to be hard working and able to manage their time and other subject commitments to make up for this lost time, but in return they will gain valuable and meaningful experience in their chosen fields. Gateway students also need to achieve 20 credits for the year. These are usually Unit Standards (but can also be Achievement Standards) and all are directly linked to their work placement.
All students complete basic First Aid, and Health and Safety in the Workplace courses, along with Unit Standards on creating a CV and Care & Timeliness in the Workplace before they start their work placement.
Application forms will be available at the GHS Conferencing Day (21 August) and at the Subject/Course Evening (23 August).
