42 students from Year 7-9 were selected to represent the school at the Sanford Science and Technology Fair, held at the Caroline Bay Hall in Timaru on Wednesday 12th September. This year saw 292 projects entered (nearly 400 students) from 23 schools from Ashburton to Oamaru.

Each individual or team were interviewed by judges and prizes were awarded based on the originality of their ideas, their findings and the scientific way in which they carried out their investigation. There was a huge range of investigation topics covered this year and being present at the Fair gave the students the opportunity to gain further ideas for next year.

It was a successful day out with four students, Elsie Talbot, Rebecca Skinner, Olivia Chapman and Samara Johnston, gaining awards. Well done to everyone who took part as this takes a lot of extra work and preparedness to get ready for this event and a big congratulations goes to our prize winners:

  • Elsie Talbot and Rebecca Skinner – Year 7 – Bronze Award – 'Are your hands clean?'
  • Olivia Chapman and Samara Johnston – Year 7 Gold Award and the Waterwatch Award for one of the best projects related to water.
