BYOD - Bring Your Own Device for 2018

By Mr Simon Coleman | Posted: Friday October 27, 2017

We have promoted recently and mentioned in previous newsletters that we highly recommend a BYOD [bring your own device] for next year as we integrate digital fluency and application of technologies in all of our curriculum areas.

We have been doing a great deal of this in the last few years but our next step is students having a device of their own to assist to grow this further and prepare our students better for the world beyond school.

Attached are a number of documents to be familiar with if you are looking at getting a device for your son or daughter:

  • Specification sheet that your device needs to meet to provide the best learning for your child.

  • A FAQ [Frequently Asked Questions] sheet that may answer some of the questions that you may have.

  • 2 flyers from Harvey Norman of possible options for devices.

  • Flyers from Officemax of devices that can be purchased through the online ordering that we offer.  Also, links below to view other options available:

We also have Harvey Norman putting on a display of devices that will work well in our school environment and offer options in purchasing a device on the following dates and times.

  • 14 November at 12noon

  • 21 November at 5.30pm - 6.30pm

It is important particularly for senior students to select the device to suit the areas that they are interested in.  An example of this is if they are interested in the Graphic Design/DVC side then they need a device that is powerful enough to run software such as Photoshop. You can speak to the staff at Harvey Norman about this at any stage in the Timaru or Ashburton shops.
