Year 10 Challenge Launch

By Mrs Kerri Doy | Posted: Thursday February 8, 2018

We are pleased to introduce to you the Year 10 Geraldine Challenge 2018. Our aim is to make Year 10 a year that students will value, which will challenge them and give them a positive mind set for entering Year 11 in 2018. We hope the Geraldine Challenge will encourage students to:

  • develop into “all-rounders”
  • set goals and work to achieve them
  • take opportunities to face new challenges
  • be of service to others.

Briefly, the Geraldine Challenge is divided into different areas:

1. Baseline Criteria – compulsory participation in the following seven days (a combination of outdoor education, education for sustainability, service, competition and team work):

Term 1 - Team Challenge Day (Ropes Course)

Term 2 - Fun in the Forest and Tackle Timaru

Term 3 - Geraldine Getaway

Term 4 - Community Service Day, The Ultimate Challenge (Lake Hood)

2. Four categories of individual challenges - areas in which students choose what they will do:

  • Academic – competition or library
  • Physical – team or individual
  • Cultural – cultural group or activity
  • Service /Leadership

Plenty of opportunities will be given for students to complete much of this at school. However, some of these categories allow students to complete tasks/activities at home or in the wider community.
