Geraldine High School Triathlon Club is going from strength to strength. Presently we have over 20 students who attend training sessions on Tuesday lunchtimes and Thursdays after school. Sessions consist of brick training, incorporating the three disciplines.
On Thursday 15th February Mrs Andrews and myself took three Year 10's, Marcus Furrer, Robert Furrer and Conor Foley-Smith to the Secondary Schools Wanaka Challenge. The distances included a 300m swim in a very rough lake, 15km cycle and a 3.5km run. All three boys showed great determination and vigour, in some tough conditions and against experienced triathletes. There were 16 Year 9-10 students in their race and Conor finished 3rd with a time of 59.55, Marcus finished 5th with a time of 1.01.16 and Robert finished 8th with a time of 1.02.55. Fantastic achievements!
There are plenty of triathlons and duathlons left before the end of the season and we will be looking to enter students in these.
Lastly, a huge thanks to the PTA who are actively supporting this new school venture.
