Easter Baskets for the Community

This year Geraldine High School delivered around 120 individual Easter Baskets to our senior members of the community. We also gave hampers to Waihi Lodge and McKenzie Rest Home. This is one of the biggest projects that our Community Committee undertake each year. The money for the Easter Eggs is raised by holding a mufti day. Organising, constructing and delivering the baskets requires a great deal of management and responsibility. This is a fantastic learning opportunity for our students, as well as a way for them to give back to the community.

Our students gave up their break time to create and deliver the baskets. However, they found it incredibly rewarding. As well as chatting the students helped with laundry, listened to stories about the history of Geraldine and learnt about the origins of Easter. There was also the occasional biscuit and even a few hugs.

Mackenzie Robertson commented that “It was a real pleasure working with a lovely team of like minded people who enjoyed helping make some of the elderly in the community Easter a little brighter.”

The Community Committee greatly appreciate the support of Fresh Choice and the generous donation of jam from Barkers.
