We are into our third week and it is a very important time for our students from Years 10 to 13 as we have a number of future focused events that both students and parents need to be involved in.
The first is the Subject Evening on Wednesday which is an opportunity to speak with Head of Departments and teaching staff about the choices of subjects and curriculum areas that they need to make for 2020. This is specifically about knowing more about each subject and the work and expectations around these.
The second event is linked to the first as it is our Conference Day. This is one of the more important days of the year that all our Year 10 - 12 students and their caregivers/parents should attend. This day is focused solely on your child’s current progress, aspirations, and what choices that they need to make to achieve the direction they wish to take both for school qualifications and beyond school. There is also an opportunity to know more about NCEA and Careers through seminars on the day.
For Year 13 students, on the same day as the conference is a day that has been structured to assist our students in readiness for next year as they leave our school for University, Polytechnic, Trades or work.
Held on Saturday night at Stonebridge Function Venue, this was one of the best Ball’s that I have attended. It was lovely to see all our students and their guests/partners along with staff, parents and BOT members enjoy such a well organised and creative function. The food, layout, music, photo booth and facilities were incredible and my thanks to all those involved in making this special event for our senior students happen.
A special mention to the Ball organising committee along with Miss Paige Richmond, Ms Saskia Tremmell, Ms Maria Heikonig and Mr Steven McNulty who ensured everything ran so smoothly. The owners of Stonebridge commented to me on how good working with our school around communication was and how that was done so well. I do hope that all the students involved enjoyed the occasion and thanked those who helped put such a spectacular event together.
With sadness, we thank Miss Cate Knowles, our DP, for her contributions over the last 3 years to our school as she has recently been appointed to the DP at Epsom Girls' Grammar school. Miss Knowles has given a great deal of time and energy to many aspects of our school and in particular the Staff Professional Development and Registration and more recently in the Teaching and Learning area of our school. We are currently advertising her role for a start at the beginning of 2020.
Mrs Roxanne Rooney, is away on maternity and has been replaced by Mr Oliver Bentham with her Maths classes.
Miss Tessa Opie has been appointed to the Sports Coordinator position and is currently working with Mrs Kim Andrews until she takes maternity leave in Week 7 of this term.
We are currently advertising for positions in Chemistry and Science, Maths along with an Assistant Principal and Deputy Principal for a start next year.
All our winter sports teams are heading into the final few weekends before finals. We had a wonderful result in the Premier Grade where our Senior A team defeated Craighead A for the first time. Our girls played with confidence in each other and played as a team that supported each other and this was the key to the win.
We have a large number of sports teams in Netball, Basketball and Rugby as well as students playing in club teams for Football and Hockey who are playing very well and we wish them all the best in the coming weeks. I look forward to seeing our teams in action in the coming weeks.
