School Health Clinics

By Mrs Claire Neilson, Public Health Nurse | Posted: Thursday February 23, 2017

Public Health Nursing offers students an opportunity to attend a free Health Clinic at GHS each Wednesday during the lunch hour.  The Clinic's are advertised each week in the Student Notices and are held in Mrs Rawson's office.

The Nurse will see students for a wide variety  of health issues eg, vision or hearing concern, skin problems including acne, sports and other injuries, sexual health/contraception, nutrition advice, low mood and other issues (eg not sleeping, anxiety etc), quit smoking support or problems with alcohol or drugs.  Students can just come along for a chat and parents or teachers can also refer.

Students are encouraged to discuss their health with a parent/caregiver.  They can also attend their own Doctor where some appointments are free for contraception/sexual health.  Students can also attend the Youth Health Clinic held at 18 Woollcombe Street, Timaru each Tuesday from 2.00pm-4.30pm with a Nurse Practitioner.  This is a free service.

Parents are welcome to ring or text the Nurse to discuss further.
