Sports Updates Week 7 Term 3

Sports Updates Week 7 Term 3

We are now well into Term 3 and at the end of the winter season of sport. Summer codes are starting to get into action. It has been great to see a number of our winter sports teams make finals as we continue to have some amazing performances happening from our students.

If you want to know more about sports at Geraldine High School check out our Facebook page, Geraldine High School Sport, where we post results, notices and photos.

Fees and Uniforms

Just a gentle reminder that fees for sporting events need to be paid and uniforms need to be returned asap.

There are a number of outstanding sports fees which are now overdue. Please pay asap if you know you have these. You may receive a friendly reminder email in the coming weeks to remind you to pay.

We now have some of the uniforms on a barcode system, which is great for keeping track of them. If you notice the barcode coming off after washing, just iron it down again.

Aoraki Snow Sports

On Monday 11th August a number of GHS students took part in the Aoraki Snow Sports event.

We had some great results with Ethan W coming first in the Y9/10 giant slalom, Isaac J second in the  Y7/8 giant slalom and Elin B second in the snowboarding event. Thank you to Sally Houston and the parents for helping out with this event.

Swimming

Thomas A attended the South Island Short Course Swimming Champs in Blenheim 22nd -24th August with the Swim Timaru club. He won bronze medals in the men’s 15-16yrs 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 100m butterfly and a silver medal in the 200m freestyle with personal best times for all events.

Cycling- Southern Tour

Kyra M finished 2nd overall to Neve M after both were tied on 38 points. After two stage wins each, the overall win was decided on count back with the highest placed rider on the final taking home the yellow jersey as overall winner. Kyra won the criterium, which carried a NZ Schools championship, so another medal for her. She also did the hillclimb and took home the polka dot jersey as the Queen of Mountains winner. All in all, another top result against a girl who won both the tt and road race at U19 elite championships in Timaru earlier in the year.

Well done, Kyra, we are so proud of you.

Aoraki Table Tennis

We had eight students take part in the Aoraki Table Tennis champs. A number of the students had not played much Table Tennis however, they all competed well, and some won a game or two. Thank you to Natalie Bergamini for taking the students to this event.

Aoraki Badminton

We had Boys and Girls Badminton in early August. Geraldine High School had 3 teams in the Girls event and one team in the Boys event. While for most of our students this was an opportunity to try a new sport, they all competed with enthusiasm and managed to win a couple of games.
