English and Languages Update Feb. 2024
By now, senior students across all levels will have access to their course outlines on Google Classroom. These include information about NCEA requirements, upcoming due dates and an outline of our programme for the year.
Weekly English tutorials are now well under way, running on Thursday lunchtimes in K7. These provide a great opportunity for students to access support with their English work, and to catch up on work they may have missed due to absence.
Year 9 English
Year 9 English classes have hit the ground running this year, jumping straight into the creation of their "Identitrees". This project has seen students producing a visual representation of who they are and what matters to them in the form of a tree of their own design. We are looking forward to having all their amazing creations up on the walls very soon. Until then, enjoy a sneak peek of a few finished artworks below.
Year 10 English
The Year 10 classes are off to a great start. They are currently working on collages, a great way for the students to express their individuality and identities. The students will be putting their collages on the wall of the classrooms, photos of their collages will also be taken and put in the students drive folders. Students will then be working on a collaborative project with the art department, writing creative stories.
Welcome Matua Otis & Mr Austin
This year we have the privilege of welcoming Matua Otis Perenara, a new Te Reo Māori teacher, into our fold. Matua Otis hails from Ōtautahi, and has recently moved to the area with his young family. We are also lucky enough to have had Mr Scott Austin join us in the English and Languages Faculty, having moved to Raukapuka from Ōtautahi. A warm welcome to our new colleagues, and well wishes to them both as they continue to settle into our kura.
