TWA Special Olympics
TWA Special Olympics
Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt. This is the oath that any athlete competing in a Special Olympics recites before the competition. The students in Te Whare Ako mo te katoa had the privilege to participate in the South Canterbury Special Olympics football tournament. The event featured teams from Ashburton College, Waitaki Boys High School, Waimate High School, Timaru Girls High School, and Mountain View High School.
Geraldine has been participating in Special Olympic events over the past six years always with many fantastic experiences and results. This time around Te Whare Ako entered two teams in the competition in two round-robin brackets. The TWA Giants and TWA Titans were both the models of sportsmanship, integrity and determination. After both teams finished their three games, the TWA Giants won their pool with a first place well-deserved and the TWA Titans came in second place only missing out on first place on a tie-breaker criteria (total goals scored).
We are extremely proud of the athletes and look forward to next term where they will be working at making their marks on the hardwood in a basketball tournament. Kia kaha students of Te Whare Ako!
