Year 9

Year 9 Music is a practical course that develops the skills used by contemporary musicians and performers.

This half year course involves:

  • Performance skills - develop further and refine your vocal/instrumental skills and present solo/group performances to an audience.

  • Composition - learn to create your own pieces of music in a variety of styles.

  • Music Skills - learn how music concepts are combined to form various pieces, and how to understand basic music notation.

It is highly recommended, though not required, that you are learning an instrument either inside or outside of school. Performing in front of an audience is a compulsory aspect of this subject.

Year 10

Code: 10MUS

Year 10 Music continues to develop the skills learned in Year 9 music and allows for you to follow your own interests in the subject area. It also develops the fundamental skills for NCEA L1 music.

This half year course involves:

  • Performance skills - develop further and refine your vocal/instrumental skills and present solo and group performances to an audience. This will be done at one of our school events.

  • Composition - learn to write more complex pieces of music and develop your own compositional style

  • Music Skills - learn more advanced music concepts to apply to your own compositions and performances

Students who complete Year 10 music will be best prepared to succeed in NCEA L1 music. It is highly recommended that students be learning an instrument prior to taking this course. Performing in front of an audience is a compulsory aspect of this subject
