Softball
Geraldine Falcons played in the South Canterbury U19 tournament during the 22/23 season. On 29th March they secured their first win in a competition season final. At the beginning of the season, the team was mostly made up of Geraldine High School students including Billy Vincent, Zac Allen, Kohl Brown, Ethan Taylor, Sienna Baker, Seth Baker, Cameron Jamieson, Anthony Baker, Lachy Sloan-Scott, and Cameron Clarke. We also had a couple of additional students join in for the second half of the season. Those players were Ethan Grant and Kristin Schoneveld. We also had a couple of players who joined us from outside of GHS as we are playing in the South Canterbury competition and they were Ambrose Bensemann and Kiloran Cairns. All players continued to show development throughout the season and we look forward to seeing further keen interest this Summer for the 23/24 season.
It was great to win the final! We've been close and have received runner-up in the competition before but this is our first final win! Our competition throughout the season consisted of teams from Zingari and Timaru Boys' High School. Our team has had a core group developing their skills for the last 4 years. They have improved hugely in both their fielding and batting performance. Their base running and understanding of the rules have also made a significant difference to the quality of their play. It was great to see some outstanding home runs and brilliant catches both in and outfield. Our aim, as our pitching continues to develop, is to travel to one of the Secondary School Softball tournaments.
“Congratulations to Jackson Marriott who was selected by Rolleston High School to represent them in the National Secondary School Championships Softball Tournament which was held in Christchurch last week. After a challenging few days with rain and cold temperatures Rolleston played well as a team. Jackson put in a strong batting performance during the tournament while adding some home runs to his season tally. He was a key part of the team as catcher and 1st base.
Well done Jackson, that's an awesome achievement.”
