Basketball
ATTENTION PARENTS WE ARE HOPING TO FORM A GHS BASKETBALL COMMITTEE. WE PLAN TO HAVE A MEETING FOR THIS ON THURSDAY 3RD AUGUST 2023 IN THE LIBRARY AT 7 PM.
The Friday night competition continues with some great results from our teams.
Aoraki Basketball
We had two teams in the Aoraki Basketball Champs. Our Senior Boys A team and our Senior Girls B team. Both teams had some great games. The boys ended up second in their grade. A super result as the competition was strong.
The girls performed really well, given that they are new to basketball and had to enter the competition grade. Great effort teams!
Aoraki Junior Boys Basketball
We had three teams in this event and the boys all performed well. The competition was strong in both the A Grade and the B Grade. Our A team was 5th and the B Grade teams were 5th and 6th respectively. It is great to see that Basketball is so popular and strong at GHS which bodes well for the future.
Our Junior Girls Basketball team looks great in their new uniforms.
Cross Country
On Tuesday 13 June, we took a team of 18 students to the SCPSSA Cross Country at Waihi.
Our students performed very well with some top finishes from some of them.
Charlotte Walker was 1st in the Y7 girls AWD event.
Grace Worner was 1st in Y8 girls.
Sophia Cisneros was 2nd in Y7 girls.
Pippa Saywell was 16th in Y7 girls.
Harry Edge was 4th in Y7 boys.
Billy Nelson was 6th in Y8 boys.
Addison Campbell was 20th in Y8 girls.
SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY WILL BE THURSDAY 3RD AUGUST 2023.
Hockey
Lily Jones has been selected for the South Canterbury U18 Hockey team and will play games in Auckland during the holidays. Congratulations Lily.
Youth Grade team
Geraldine Hockey’s Youth Grade team has climbed to 13 team members over the start of the season and being able to field a full 11 or more each week has seen the team post some good results. The players are becoming used to full-field hockey and developing positional awareness, resulting in plenty of balls heading up the field towards the goal, and some good goals being scored. Our goalies have had to work at times too, putting in some great saves to help the team out. Currently, the team has had 3 wins, 2 losses and a draw, including the games we played with 9 players, so are happy with that and hoping for a strong finish to the second half of the season.
Jump Jam
Congratulations to our amazing Jump Jam team who took part in the Jump Jam Extravaganza on Thursday 22 June at STEC in Timaru. There were hundreds of students from across the Aoraki region involved in this event and our team rocked!! Huge shout out to the student leaders, Kristin Shoneveld, Pieta Houston and Olivia Chapman who coached the girls. Big thanks also to Miss Neill who helped to organise the team.
Middle Quad
On Tuesday 27 June, we had Middle Quad in Darfield. Our Netball, Soccer and Rugby teams all performed well and we had wins in all three codes. Rugby won 2 games, Soccer won 2 games and Netball won one game. This meant we were tied for first place with Mount Hutt College. Awesome work teams. It was a bit wet and cold so the students performed well in challenging conditions.
