2025 Sports Wrapped!

2025 Sports Wrapped!

Wow, another year of amazing happenings at GHS and sport is fast drawing to a close.

It’s been a busy year, lots of wins, few losses and most excitingly is the building of a new gym to raise the profile of sport at GHS.

Big shout out to all those that have supported Sport at GHS in 2024, coaches, managers, staff, parents, students and sponsors.

We are looking forward to 2025 and more great things going on with Sport at GHS.

Sports Updates

Fees and Uniforms

Just a gentle reminder that fees for sporting events need to be paid and uniforms need to be returned asap.

GHS Sports Committee

The Sports Committee held their Golf fundraiser on Friday 22 November and by all accounts this was a great day. Many thanks to the team at Denfield for their hospitality and support. There was some awesome (and not so awesome) golf played. Special mention to all our amazing sponsors and to the competitors who played on the day - thank you for sticking around for dinner and buying so many raffle tickets. Thanks also to our super community who provided all the raffle prizes. We had so much fun we are already planning for 2025!

Volleyball

We sent our Junior A Girls Volleyball team to the Junior SISS tournament in Christchurch recently and wow did they do well. The team was placed second in Division 4!!!!

Big thanks to Sarah Johnston (coach) and Clare Chapman and Sarah Edkins for taking the girls.

The new uniforms, thanks to Aotearoa Gaming Trust, looked amazing and got lots of compliments.

Junior Sports Week

This is a week of activity for our Junior Students and it also includes Aoraki Junior Touch, Caroline Bay relays and Aoraki Junior Volleyball.

Our students had a great week of fun, made the school proud and our own Billy Nelson set a new record for the Course at the relays. Top effort Billy!!! Time was a blistering 5.48 minutes for 1800m lap.

SCPSSA athletics

We had a team of 11 students who took part in the primary schools athletics. Charlotte Walker won the 70m and 100m AWD event and was second in Shot put.

Jenna Fowler was third in Long jump and Camilo Cisneros was third in 100m.

Touch Rugby Module

Over the last six weeks Marcus Cooper and a group of dedicated students have been running a Touch rugby module for local primary aged children. This has been a huge success and we thank all those who have been involved.

Big shout out to the Senior Touch team who have manned the BBQ each week.

National Athletics Champs

This is being held in Timaru 7th & 8th December and we have five students competing.

Ella W, Ethan H, Anya J, Billy N and Harry F are all attending. Pop on down to Aorangi All Weather track and support these students.
