2024 Hangi Fundraiser
2024 Hangi Fundraiser
On the 20th Of June, another successful Hāngī was prepared, cooked and sold.
Earlier in the year a GHS student was diagnosed with cancer, so as a collective, the Rangatahi committee wanted to do something to support Him and His Whanau, so they decided to create and sell Hāngī’s. With help and Organisation from PIA and the Māori Whanau class, everything went smoothly and we managed to sell 150 Hāngī’.
Practice makes perfect and I reckon we have got it down to a fine art now largely due to the continued support from Jimmy Paewhenua and Quentin Cooper without their help, time and enthusiasm to teach us this would never have been possible. We are fortunate to have ongoing support from Micheal Jones at Geraldine Butchery, PIA and the GHS staff who donated veggies for which we are truly grateful.
Thank You to Ex PIA parents Dallas Rae and Tracey Christie who returned to run the kitchen for us and our original PIA GOATS: Aidan Christie and Quinn Foley-Smith for being Jimmy & Q’s apprentices.
The ability to be part of the Hāngī experience in terms of preparation and cooking, even though we live in Aotearoa, will be for many a once in a lifetime experience.
Our awesome community has once again supported us and has helped raise $3000 for a worthy cause.
