And just like that another year of schooling is almost at an end. It has been a great year at Geraldine High School for myself and my family. We have felt so welcome and have thrived in this great community. Thank you all for making our transition so easy.
Last week saw the last of our NCEA external examinations. The senior students can now ease into their summer holidays and enjoy a well deserved break. To our Year 13 students we wish you all the best as you take the next step in your lives either on to further education or into employment. We look forward to hearing about your trials, tribulations and successes.
The gym construction is coming to its conclusion with marks currently being painted on the floor. Very exciting!
Last week we also we had our Year 7/8 Market Day. This was a huge success with great support from our contributing schools, kindergartens and whānau members. A wide variety of sweet treats, crafts and fun games were available for purchase. It was great to see our departing Deputy Principal, Mr Ryan Wilson, getting the treatment he deserved on the dunk tank.
On a more serious note I would like to acknowledge the great contribution that Ryan has made to the culture of the school in his 5 years at Geraldine High School. Both staff and students have articulated their sadness at losing such a caring, thoughtful and conscientious professional at our school. We wish him and his family all the best as he takes up a new position at Rolleston College.
This is our final week and is full of celebrations. Wednesday we will have our leavers dinner with the Year 13 students. Thursday we have our Year 10 Challenge Prizegiving evening and Friday we have our Junior Prizegiving at 1.15pm in the school hall. We hope to see as many whanau members as possible.
On behalf of the staff at Geraldine High School I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Nga mihi nui
