Young Enterprise Programme Update
Unfortunately, due to a family illness and bereavement, Whimsical Wonders Inc. was unable to set up a stall at the Geraldine Festival Market days as we'd hoped. However, we continued to make stock for Whimsical Wonders Inc. We've learnt a lot about the challenges of running a small enterprise, but we've also learnt a lot about making sublimation products like key rings, large and small bags, and coasters. We also learnt how to make very decorative positive affirmation bookmarks.
Recently, some students involved in the YES programme visited Mr Cooper to discuss using the school logo on their key rings. Mr Cooper loved the idea, so our next step is to contact the School Board of Trustees for their approval. We plan to start selling some of our merchandise back to the school so that they can use these items as gifts for people involved with and supporting our Kura.
Next year, we want to continue developing our product by collecting further feedback from the public about improvements and working on developing our Facebook Page and Website. We also want to host a Whimsical Wonders Inc. Stall in the New Year, so please watch this space.
Literacy and Numeracy
Students have continued to make consistent progress with their literacy and numeracy this Term.
Students enjoyed their Pickle Challenges, and as you can see from some of the many photos - and tasks, there were some wonderful adventures and laughs had while doing this.
Students also enjoyed sending Christmas cards to two towns named Geraldine in the United States (Alabama and Montana). This was a wonderful initiative run by the Geraldine Community, and some amazing cards and artwork were included.
Another literacy task this term was to write a poem about our beloved pets (either present or past). Below are some wonderful examples. We hope to find out the winning results soon.
It has been a pleasure supporting students in developing their foundational literacy and numeracy skills. Students have also enjoyed the Friday STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) Challenges. I have been impressed by their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving ability.
I wish everyone a very safe and happy holiday, and I look forward to seeing all those who are returning in the New Year. To those students leaving us, I thank you for allowing me to work alongside you over the last six years. It has been an absolute privilege, and I wish you all the best in your future endeavours.
Happy Holidays!
Mrs Vincent
