Sustainability Week @ GHS
Sustainability Week @ GHS
Sustainability Week at GHS featured a series of events including the Kennedy park clean up and a school clean up which were both very successful and have had a significant effect on the tidiness of the local area. A recycled art competition was also held which combined sustainability and art. Students entered accessories, sculptures, or pieces of art that were made of recycled materials.
After winning the Bob Eatt Foundation award last term, the Sustainability Committee used the prize money to visit Timaru Eco Centre on Monday. We learned about how rubbish is dealt with after it is collected from our bins, explored ways to reduce and reuse in our daily lives, and gathered ideas for waste minimisation activities at school. The trip also featured a competitive waste sorting challenge. We hope the week’s activities increased knowledge and inspired environmental responsibility within the school.
