Course Description

The Te Reo Maori programme is designed to improve students’ confidence and fluency in four key skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. The programme is well supported by online resources which allow self-directed learning to continue from home.

Course of Study

Students will learn to interact with Te Reo Maori speakers in familiar and social situations. They will be able to use basic language patterns spontaneously and write short informal and formal passages. A range of topics will be covered to allow students to talk about their own world.

91085 Demonstrate understanding of a variety of spoken Te Reo texts on areas of most immediate relevance (6 credits).

91086 Interact using spoken Te Reo Maori to communicate personal information, ideas and opinions in different situations (6 credits).

External

91087 Demonstrate understanding of a variety of Te Reo texts on areas of most immediate relevance (6 credits).

91088 Demonstrate understanding of a variety of written Te Reo Maori text(s) on familiar matters (6 credits).

Entry Criteria

Y10 Te Reo Maori, or be able to demonstrate prior learning in Te Reo Maori at a similar level. Or with approval by Ms Te Rahui Hobbs

Course Description

The Te Reo Maori programme is designed to improve students’ confidence and fluency in four key skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. The programme is well supported by online resources which allow self-directed learning to continue from home.

Course of Study

Students are becoming increasingly proficient in their use of the Te Reo Maori language and will be able to take part in general conversation with Te Reo Maori speakers, understand much of what is said and contribute relevant comments. They can read a variety of authentic materials and write expressively for a range of purposes. A range of topics will permit students to communicate about the wider world, and to give and justify their opinions.

Assessment

Internal

91284 Demonstrate understanding of a variety of spoken Te Reo Maori texts on familiar matters (4 credits).

91285 Interact using spoken Te Reo Maori to share information and justify ideas and opinions in different situations (6 credits).

External

91086 Demonstrate understanding of a variety of written Te Reo Maori text(s) on familiar matters (6 credits).

91087 Write a variety of text types in Te Reo Maori to convey information, ideas, and opinions in genuine contexts (6 credits).

(includes 6 Reading and 6 or 12 Writing towards UE Literacy)

12 credits from Level 1 Te Reo Maori, or be able to demonstrate prior learning in Te Reo Maori at a similar level. Or with approval by Ms Te Rahui Hobbs.
