Geography is the study of the environment as the home of people. It explores the relationships between people and the natural environment, investigating how the environment impacts people and society, and how people impact the environment. Geography describes and explains the patterns and processes that create landscapes.

Learning will be based around local, national and international issues.
Possible topics include tourism, population, natural disasters (earthquakes and volcanoes), and sustainability.

Course of Study
Learning will be based around local, national, and international issues. Possible topics include, global freshwater availability, urban population trends, the impact of tourism in Cambodia, and the use of 1080 to control pests in New Zealand., There is also a geographic field study to either Aoraki/Mount Cook, Queenstown, or Karitane beach.

AS91244: Conduct geographic research with guidance (5 credits)
AS91245: Explain aspects of a New Zealand geographic issue (3 credits)
AS91246: Explain aspects of a geographic topic at a global scale (3 credits)
AS91241: Demonstrate geographic understanding of an urban pattern (3 credits)
External 4 credits
AS91243: Apply geographic concepts and skills to demonstrate understanding of a given environment (4 credits) (R + W)
Entry Criteria
Automatic entry if you have attained 12 credits in Level 1 Geography or if you have not done Geography before you can do Level 2 provided you have demonstrated ability to cope with an academic subject at this level.
LEVEL THREE

Course of Study
Learning will be based around local, national, and international issues. Possible topics include sea level change and climate refugees, tourism development in Singapore and Cambodia, the impacts of music festivals in New Zealand, and urban slums. There is also a geographic field study to either Aoraki/Mount Cook, Queenstown, or Karitane Beach

Automatic entry if you have attained at least 11 credits in Level 2 Geography or if you have not done Geography before you can do Level 3 provided you have demonstrated ability to cope with an academic subject at this level.
