Matariki Kai Cook-Off
Matariki Kai Cook-Off
On Thursday last week, ten excited teams brought an Aotearoa-themed dish of kai they had designed and cooked themselves to Kura for judging. This is the second cook-off we have had, and every year the standard goes up! From exquisite meat and vegetable meals to beautifully baked whetu cookies to classic sausage rolls, the students really brought their best to the tēpu for 2024. We are excited to announce the winners of the competition as follows:
1st Place - Elsie K. (Year 7) for her ‘Harvest Meal’, made up of meat, kūmara, yams, and other vegetables sourced from her home farm and presented beautifully.
2nd Place - Jack L. (Year 13) for ‘Jacko’s Venison Pie’, topped with crispy pastry and made from home with the help of his amazing whānau.
3rd Place - Pheenyx TW. (Year 13) for ‘Pheenyx’s Shepherd’s Pie’ topped with beautiful garnish and made with the most delicious mince mix.
Judge’s Choice - Joshua W. (Year 10) for ‘Kūmara Patty Cakes’ accompanied by sweet chilli sauce for dipping.
People’s Choice - Aoife B. (Year 8) for ‘Neenish Tarts’ topped with Matariki sprinkles.
Congratulations to all our winners. Please come to K5 to collect your prizes.
