Kia ora e te whanau

In my short time, I have seen our values being displayed on many occasions to an exceptional level. I have seen them around the school grounds, in classes, on the sports field, at farming competitions, and at A&P shows. I see them in the conversations I have with students while walking around at break times and in the way you interact with other staff and your peers.

Values are the things that we hold close to us because they have value. They are our non-negotiables in the way we act and behave while at school and in our wider community when we represent the school.

Respect (Manaakitanga) is the cornerstone of any meaningful interaction. It is the acknowledgment of the inherent worth and dignity of every individual, regardless of differences in opinion, background, or belief. When we cultivate a culture of respect, we foster understanding, empathy, and tolerance. Respecting others ultimately reflects the respect we hold for ourselves.

Responsibility (Rangatiratanga) is the driving force behind progress and development. It is the understanding that our actions have consequences and we must be accountable for them. Whether it's taking care of our environment, fulfilling our obligations, or making ethical and moral choices, embracing responsibility empowers us to create positive change in our school community and beyond.

Relationships (Whanaungatanga) enrich our lives, provide support during challenging times, and offer opportunities for growth and connection. Nurturing meaningful relationships requires empathy, communication, and a willingness to listen and understand.

Achievement (Whakatutukitanga) is the realisation of our potential and aspirations. It is the result of hard work, perseverance, and dedication. While success may be defined differently for each individual, the pursuit of excellence is a universal endeavour. Let us celebrate our accomplishments and those of others, recognising that every success, no matter how big or small, contributes to the collective progress of this school and community.

I look forward to the coming weeks and months as our students demonstrate our school values through their actions.

Welldone to the students that participated in the SISS Triathlon and the South Canterbury Primary Schools Triathlon in the last couple of weeks!
