Principal's comment 5th March 2025

The year has started on a fantastic note, with our school community coming together to celebrate two major events—Athletic Sports and Swimming Sports. These events were a true reflection of our school’s spirit, showcasing not only the athleticism and enthusiasm of our students but also the strong sense of house pride and school culture that defines us. It was incredible to see students supporting each other, cheering on their peers, and participating with such energy and commitment. A huge thank you to the staff, student leaders, and volunteers who made these events such a success.

Our PIA students continue to promote the school values through their action by putting on an outstanding event at the Winchester show. Congratulations must also go to current Year 13 student Thomas B. and former student Lachie O'C. who came in first in the under 31 category of the Young Farmer competition at Mt Somers station with Cayden H. and Issy A. coming in Third.

Well done to the group of students (Anya J., Elin B., Maddi C., Charlee C., and Justina C.) who participated in the SISS Triathlon in Oamaru. Both teams gained placings in their respective categories.

While we have much to celebrate, it is also important to reflect on how we uphold our school values in all aspects of school life. Recently, we were disappointed by an incident where a fight was recorded and shared widely among students. This behaviour does not align with the culture of respect, responsibility, and positive relationships that we work hard to promote. We encourage all students to be upstanders, not bystanders—if you see something that goes against our values, speak up or seek help from a trusted adult.

Additionally, sharing harmful or inappropriate content online can have serious consequences under the Harmful Digital Communications Act. We urge students to think carefully before sharing content that could negatively impact others. Social media should be used to uplift and connect, not to spread harm.

Our focus now is on supporting the students involved and ensuring that we all learn from this experience. As a school, we will continue to foster a culture where respect, responsibility, relationships, and achievement guide everything we do. Let’s work together to ensure that every student feels safe, supported, and proud to be part of our school community.

Here’s to a year of positive choices, strong school spirit, and a commitment to our shared values.
