Aoraki Maths Competition
Aoraki Maths Competition
On Wednesday the 7th of August four Year 9 and eight Year 10 students from our school went to Timaru Boys High School to compete in the Aoraki Maths Competition.
Lots of fun and excitement as the students had to face 20 questions in 30 minutes. Each team of four was given the same questions, one at a time. The runners would hand the answer to one of the judges and in case of a correct answer, take the next question and run as fast as possible to where his/her team was located. Each runner had to cover the same distance not to favour the teams located in the front, closer to the judges.
The progression of the competition was displayed on a big screen where the audience could see the performance of the students on a spreadsheet showing the correct and wrong answers of each team.
We didn’t win, but our students had fun and participated with passion and enthusiasm. It was very pleasant to see so many young students from many different schools gathering and having fun trying to solve challenging Maths problems.
Our Year 9 team, with the runner holding a new question and running as fast as possible to his team.

The three best teams on the stage receive the prizes. The screen with the scoreboard can be seen on the right.
