Welcome back to Geraldine High School for Term Three. Over the holiday period, we had a number of students participating for the school and the region in different sports.
Our Year 10A Netball team participated in the SISS Netball tournament in Christchurch. The quality of the netball across the tournament was outstanding with our girls representing the school with pride. A lot of development in their skills, tournament play and recovery was experienced. This will serve them well in the future as they look to make further gains over the tail end of their season. Thank you to Stacey Mason and Clare Chapman for coaching and managing the students over the tournament. This is a big commitment and without your support, these events just do not happen.
GHS students represented South Canterbury in Basketball, Hockey and Netball during the break. Well done to all those students who are thriving in their chosen sports!
Seven students and two staff spent 12 days on a trip to China and Hong Kong during the holidays. They spent time in English camps, experienced Chinese cuisine and explored different areas of China. The highlight for most was the trip to Disneyland in Hong Kong. The students were challenged by the weather (hot and humid) and a busy schedule but have come back with a better cultural understanding, resilience and global friendships made at the camps.
We also had our PIA students competing in the national Young Farmers competition in Hamilton. It was great to receive an email from a member of the public in Hamilton that was helped by our students when their car would not start. Quick thinking and problem-solving from these students got this stranded citizen back on the road.
Term three will be a chance for our senior students to ramp up their studies in preparation for the practice examinations at the end of the term but before that, we have a number of really important events to look forward to.
Riccarton High School sports exchange, Vibes, Formal, Year 8 camp, Winter Tournament week, Kapahaka festival for Te Wiki o Te Reo - Maori language week.
So much happening and more!
Finally a quick update on the gym. We have poured the concrete floor for the gym. This is a significant step in having the gym completed on time, well done Thompson's construction!
Nga mihi nui
