World Down Syndrome Day was held earlier this term

Celebrating Down Syndrome DayWorld Down Syndrome Day was held on 21st March. This year's message was 'End the Stereotypes'. A strong message came across about how limiting and harmful stereotypes can be and how important it is to get to know the 'real person' behind the diagnosis or stereotype. A slide show about World Down Syndrome Day was shared with students during their whānau class time. This provided students the opportunity to learn about and get to know our students with Down Syndrome at Geraldine High School. Lots of questions were asked and lots of valuable information was shared. Some of the students in Whānau classes were very keen to have our students with Down syndrome visit their class so they could get to know them even better. The day promoted an important message about ending negative stereotypes and it was pleasing to see a lot more odd socks worn this year by staff and students. We hope this continues to grow. A generous amount of money was also raised for the Down Syndrome Society which was greatly appreciated. Mrs Vincent
