Down Syndrome Odd Sock Day
We were proud to wear our odd socks on March 21st to promote World Down Syndrome Day. March 21 marks Down Syndrome Day every year because it is the triplication of the 21st chromosome that causes Down Syndrome.
Bring it On musical
Our very own Kylie Fraser is starring in the South Canterbury Drama League production of Bring it On the musical. Unfortunately Covid has caused a postponement to this event but we hope to see Kylie on the stage again soon.
Relay for Life
GHS had a team of students at the recent Relay for Life held in Timaru.
- Very emotional day as we are all affected by cancer in some way
- We had one person walking with our banner at all times
- Koefi and Olivia walked around 44km
- Charlotte and Piper walked around 33km
- Everyone else varied and was not calculated.
- We had staff and parents come along throughout the 12-hour day to support us and the cause
- Important takeaway from the day - The aches and pain we felt after 12 hours of walking is only a fraction of the pain those who have cancer have to go through.
- Overall the cancer society raised around $80,000 from all of the donations collected by the teams - we were extremely grateful to have raised $2597 for the cancer society.
