Year 10 Challenge - That’s a wrap!
Year 10 Challenge - That’s a wrap!
This group has been fantastic to work with this year and they demonstrated the school values wonderfully at every event. As a committee we are incredibly proud of their maturity and fantastic work ethic, ka pai to all of you!
This year students worked within their classes to compete in a series of challenges which has encouraged them to build their communication and teamwork skills as well as encouraging them to go beyond their boundaries.
So without further ado here are the challenges and results:
Permission Slips: The committee decided to make the return of permission slips the first challenge of the year. The winning class was the group to return these first, not as easy as it sounds!
1st - 10W
2nd - 10T
3rd - 10O
Ropes Challenge: Students spent the day on the high ropes course at Geraldine High School. During this day they went on the low and high ropes activities and supported one another in climbing to some new heights!
1st - 10T
2nd - 10O
3rd - 10W
Geraldine Getaway Day: During this challenge students got to explore their local community. The day started with an amazing race around town followed by raft building, creating and performing a class chant, segway races and of course, a sausage sizzle lunch.
1st - 10O
2nd - 10W
3rd - 10T
Future Focus Day: Students packed into buses and took a trip to Lincoln University to learn more about their potential options for the future. There was a series of challenges students took part in and Miss Opie was so impressed by everyone that every class gained first place!
Ultimate Challenge: The final event of the year started with questionable weather that turned into a beautiful day. Each class did an admirable effort to create rafts and get their whole class across Lake Opuha to the island and back. This was the tie breaker event that would gave us the overall Year 10 Challenge winning class.
1st: 10T
2nd: 10W
3rd: 10O
This year's winning class was 10T! Well done to all of you!
This programme cannot run without the incredibly hard mahi of the committee, so I would like to thank Ms Opie, Ms Quinn, Mrs Morrison, Mrs McKeown, Mr Wilson, Miss Cheesman, Mr Willocks, Mrs O’Connor and Mr Gracey for everything they have done this year for Year 10 Challenge.
