As term three draws to a close our winter sports codes are finishing up competitions and it is time to look towards summer sports.
We have plenty on offer for summer and I would encourage parents to get their children involved in a summer sport whether it is through the school or at club level in the wider Geraldine Community. There are some exciting opportunities out there such as the touch rugby initiative being launched by Geraldine Rugby Club.
SPORTS UNIFORM AMNESTY.

Sports Updates
Basketball
Our two teams in the Southern Cup Basketball tournament held during winter tournament week in Timaru performed well considering it was such a big step up for them.
Although both teams took some heavy losses the scores did not really reflect the games, we had plenty of ball time but were not able to finish off with baskets as well as our opposition teams. This tournament was a valuable learning experience for the boys involved.
Particular mention should be made of our B team who were all year 9 & 10 boys who were named the best Sportsmanship team at the event and received a $200 voucher from Bayleys Real Estate for their efforts.
Thank you to Ross Ashley, Chris Watkins and Susan Patterson who all helped coach or manage the teams.

Zespri Aims Games
Addison Campball & Tyla Patterson had a great trip to the Aims games. It’s a huge event with a real focus on nurturing the love of sports, making new friends and challenging themselves. The swimming competition had 400 athletes, making it the biggest national swimming event for year 7 & 8. There was some amazing talent there.
Both the girls picked up some great PB’s. Looking at the school records Addison broke the following for year 8 girls:
100 back 1:27.32
100 breast 1:34.90
50 breast 41.96

Thank you to the staff and parents who were involved with this team.
Our U18 girls rugby team were also away during tournament week in Westport where they ended up 3rd in their pool and 5th overall. Great effort girls.
Hockey
Lily Jones was in action for Roncalli Hockey team during winter tournament week in Timaru.
Roncalli played 7 games across five days. We won three, lost three and drew one. Lily was the top goal scorer for Roncalli.
They finished 6th out of 11.
Soccer
On Monday 4 September our First 11 soccer team had a friendly game against Timaru Boys High School second 11. GHS were the first to score and this gave the team a boost in confidence however TBHS proved to be the better team and went on to win 6-2. It was great to see both teams in action and we are looking forward to 2024 and more action from our First 11 team.
Special mention should also be made of Teagan Marett who was part of the Mountainview Girls Soccer team who went to Blenheim during winter tournament week. The team ended up 8th out of 16 teams.
Mountain Biking
We had three students take part in the Aoraki Mountain biking champs recently. The event was held in Herbert Forest and Lewis Pace, Zech Reardon and Lance Brodina all took part.
The boys were in the Enduro race. Lewis was 9th and Zech was 11th in the U17 Boys race.
Lance came in first in the Y7&8 Boys Enduro race. Well done boys on a top effort.
