Sports Updates

Cross Country

Harry Edge, Billy Nelson, Benaiah Courage, Justina Courage, Grace Worner and Charlotte Walker from year 7 and 8 attended the inter-regional cross country in Christchurch. They competed as representatives of the South Canterbury team against teams from Wellington, Tasman and Christchurch. Wellington provided their usual tough competition as a result of some very hard training, but many of our runners took a place in the top 20, which is outstanding for South Canterbury with Charlotte taking out the gold medal in her race.

The conditions were very tough with extreme wind all day.

Harry and Justina were the fastest runners in their grade for South Canterbury so they also competed in the inter-regional relay, but the team unfortunately missed out on the bronze medal.

Harry, Benaiah, Billy and Grace were in the inter-school relay team at the end of the day representing Geraldine High School and gained a silver medal for their awesome efforts.

Cycling

Our top cyclist, Kyra Marett has continued her winning form over the holidays.

She gained some great results:

Silver medal in the U17 girls points race.

2nd in the Yunca junior Southern 3 day tour of Southland.

Athletics

The Geraldine Athletics Club season is underway and they are also promoting Interclub athletics in Timaru.

Geraldine High School students can participate in the Timaru athletics in their sports uniform. No charge. They need to register online. Follow the Geraldine Athletics Club Facebook for the link to enter each week.

This is great for senior students as there would be more competition than at the local club. Dates for the interclub are as follows:-

Friday 10 November

Friday 1 December

Friday 15 December

Fri 2 February

All 6pm start at the Track in Timaru. Gates open at 5.30.

Parafed Canterbury Games

Charlotte Walker had the Parafed Canterbury Games in the holidays which is  a South Island Para event and it is fully NZ body affiliated for all events.

In swimming she got a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke.

She also competed in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, and long jump. She won gold in all these events and she was up against some top athletes. Charlotte also had the chance to speak to William Steadman who is a current paralympian and one of the people she looks up to.

Congratulations Charlotte on your winning form and we look forward to seeing what you get up to next.
